What Does Our Skin Need on Summer Vacation?

Was braucht unsere Haut im Sommerurlaub?

A vacation by the sea or in the sun is soothing for the soul - but often a challenge for the skin. Exposure to UV radiation, salty water, heat, and dry airplane air can stress and disrupt the balance of your skin. To keep your skin glowing under the palm trees, here is our guide to well-groomed skin on vacation and beyond.

1. Hydration is key

Whether on an airplane, in the wind on the beach or in air-conditioned hotel rooms - our skin often loses more moisture than usual when we travel. Dry cabin air on planes in particular can dry out the skin, but air conditioning is also a problem. A moisturizing toner or hydrating spray provides quick refreshment on the go and helps to compensate for moisture loss.

Tip: Apply before your flight and keep it in your beach bag at all times.

2. Don't forget to care for your lips

Lips are prone to dryness or sunburn, especially in the sun. A moisturizing lip balm with sun protection factor protects and cares - whether on the plane, on the beach or in the city.

3. SPF protection, every day & everywhere

The be-all and end-all on summer vacation: consistent sun protection. Even in the shade or on cloudy days, UV radiation is usually strong enough to damage the skin. Use a sunscreen with at least SPF 50 every day - and remember to reapply, especially after swimming.

By the way: UV rays also reach you through the windows on an airplane. Studies have shown that pilots and flight attendants have an increased risk of skin cancer - a clear indication of how important UV protection is, even above the clouds.

4. Tailor your skin care to the climate

Hot and humid climate? Then it's better to use light, oil-free products. Hot, dry air? Then your skin care can be a little richer. If you sweat a lot or are out and about, you can also look for fast-absorbing textures - they feel more pleasant and don't leave a sticky feeling on the skin.

5. Stick to your tried and tested ingredients

Even if you adapt the texture of your skincare to the climate: Vacations are not the time to try out completely new active ingredients. Ingredients that you know and tolerate well offer your skin stability - especially in new temperatures, different water hardness or humidity.

Ergo, it's better to transfer your favorite products into travel bottles than to test new products on vacation!
